We analyzed 100 jobs listing and found that people who satisfy this criterion are have the highest chance of getting through to an interview even with zero experience in the game development industry.

It doesn’t matter if you are applying as an artist, programmer or an animator, unless you have something to show off which is very similar to the game the recruiter is recruiting for, your resume will probably end up in the bin.

How to build a Job worthy portfolio?

This part totally depends on the type of job you are applying for. If you are applying for a pixel artist position, then your portfolio should include characters, props, environments in pixel art style. Even if not all your work is related to the position it’s better to arrange the work related to the position in front. If you have shipped games then include those details too. A shipped game sends a signal that you can complete a project that you started.

If you already have industry experience, then you should include a title which was commercial successful and you were a part of the team. This tells the recruiter that you are capable of working with a team that can create a commercially successful game.
